Once Upon a Now
In the current moment, in the “now,” the past and the present merge. The seven works in the exhibition Once Upon a Now make the forgotten, hidden or misunderstood visible again and relate them once more to our present day, each focusing on different dialogs between today and the bygone. The various approaches include direct juxtapositions of old and new photos, or the construction of
new images from photographs of historical buildings and past moments. An examination of historical facts vis-à-vis the development of personal histories, or an investigation of the emergence and obsolescence of national borders. A look at the combination of the archaic and high-tech spans the gap between tradition and modernity. And lastly, storytelling itself is thematized, with images and ideas of earlier times brought into the present.
Once Upon a Now invites the audience to explore original historical connections and gain new perspectives on the continuity of history and the actualization of ideas.
