Leere, Neuanfang, Auslöschung – damit beschäftigen wir uns in den Arbeiten für diese Ausstellung in den unterschiedlichsten Zusammenhängen.
The expression tabula rasa stands as much for complete extinction as for radical new beginnings and literally denotes the void that opens up between the two. The expression has made a career especially in epistemology. Plato already called the soul of a newborn human being a blank slate, which only fills up in the course of life with ideas that are conveyed through the various senses. For artists, the tabula rasa as a blank page to be written on or a blank canvas to be painted on is notorious. The reverse process of completely erasing something, of destroying it so that nothing remains, is what the expression “making tabula rasa” refers to.
Emptiness, new beginnings, erasure – in our works we deal with these ideas in the most diverse of contexts.
